Remsen Barn Festival Of The Arts

Today when I got up Hubby was already up and ready to go. He wanted to go out and had found this festival in Remsen. We had a bit of a drive to get there, but the ride was easy and drizzly. We worried that the weather would be bad all day, but the sun did shine for a little while today.
The festival had a HUGE craft show. It was a great place to go! There were jewelry booths, woodworkers, food, and funky art work. We even ate some new foods. Hubby tried the Bison chili, while I had a Bison hot dog. It was pretty good, but the roll was a little stale.I also tried some alligator jambalaya. It was pretty good.
Here was an old school jigsaw that was in shop that sold puzzles:
We also saw Buffalo Chips (poop), used to help campers start fires....eewww: We saw a lot of Halloween things at the festival today. Even thought it did rain, we had a great time!

Fiber Fest Part 2

Here where some of the photos that I took last weekend when I was at Fiber Fest on Sunday.

FIBER FEST!!!!

Ahhh, it's that time of year again! Thank God this only comes once a year, or I'd be broke all the time!!! It was a beautiful day out and I made a bee-line to the Just Our Yarn ladies.
Last year I bought two beautiful skeins from them and I debated about buying a shawl kit with beads in it. Well, a year later, I am still in love with that shawl, so of course it came home with me. So did another shawl kit from them. I think their yarn is just amazing. I love how it looks, how it feels, and most importantly, how it knits!
I also got a needle felting kit... I tried doing it at our guild's retreat, but I didn't have my own supplies. Now I do!! I got a kit to make a little lady bug. I'm excited about this because I see homemade Christmas ornaments for this year! I think that would be fun to make and fun to give. I love to give homemade gifts because they take more time and thought than if I run to the store and pick out something. (Actually, I have most of my Christmas shopping done... everyone is getting something from Japan... shock!)
I met one vendor who hand makes shawl pins from wood. They were so stunning, and the price was so reasonable. I picked one out that can be reversible. His wife also made some cute wreaths with yarn balls on it.
I tasted some homemade soup by a group that teaches women who have come from rehab for drug additions how to be responsible by making and selling the soups. I was really touched by their program and the stories that these women were telling. It was awesome. I met one women who has been clean for 11 months now. The soup was also amazing! I normally avoid split pea soup like the plague, but I tried it and I've had a change of heart about split pea... I think that all the spices they put in it help me with that one!
My plan was not to spend too much, but I failed on that... oh, well... it's only once a year that I can see all these great yarns and fibers! I'm off today to man the info booth with my spinning friend.
Here are some shots from yesterday that I took.

Saturday Fun

Yesterday, my cousin called saying they wanted to go the Saturday market. I've only been to the market on Tuesday because it's not so busy. However, on Saturday, there are more vendors and a lot more people! It was awesome. We ran into a few former students as well as some former coworkers. It was nice to see everyone out and about. My cousin and her friend were overwhelmed with all the stuff. I bought some incense and a huge bag of beets!!! I am very excited about the beets since they were the last big bag that the farmer had. I love beets! I cooked up a few last night, but I still half a bag to cook up!!! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
After the market, we drove up to the beach. We had lunch close by, and then walked the pier. It was a very gray day by that time and it wasn't the nicest weather. We did sit outside for a while though. My cousin and her friend brought books to read, and I brought my knitting. I am almost done with the ribbing on the second leg warmer. Then I can start the cable part! Of course, my cousin wants them too, so I'll have to get some yarn and make her a pair too.
Hubby and I spent a quite evening at home. He was working on some computer programing and I was knitting my mystery stole.
I love this mystery stole. It looks cool, and the way the pattern changed from clue 1 to clue 2 is really neat. I think it looks like ocean waves the way the lace and beads work together on it.
Next weekend is Fiber Fest!! I'm manning the info booth with my friend on Sunday. Should be a good time!

First Full Week!

I made it though my first full week with all my kiddos. Turns out this is one of the best schools I have ever worked at. The school is really big into respect and the kids are held to a higher standard for talking to adults. I love it! The whole school works as one unit to make these kids great! I can't get over the team spirit and how people really rally for everyone to succeed! I've never seen anything like it. I am so happy there!
In addition to making though my first school week, I have also made it though the first clue of Mystery Stole 4. I finished the first clue last night and was able to start clue number 2. It looks awesome. Here's how it looks now:
Hubby helped me pick out the color for the yarn. I really love this color. It's a nice shade that will go great with a black sweater or coat.
This is my first mystery stole. I was told about it last year, but I found out after it was closed to new members. I like the idea that I don't know what the whole thing will look like. It's totally knitting on faith. I think it's a great idea!
It's been a great week! I'm feeling very happy and finally things are going right for me!!!! It's a great feeling!

Oh, The Insanity

Last night my brother and his girlfriend came to visit us. Well, really his girlfriend (here after referred to as B.G. as in Brother's Girlfriend), my good friend (now know here as Goth Girl) and I went out to the goth club. My brother and husband stayed here playing Wii.
B.G. is also a stand up comic (did I mention that my brother does stand-up?), so one never knows what she is going to say! Hilarity ensues where she goes. This became evident after a few moments in the club. Goth Girl saw some friends she knew so she was talking with them, while B.G. and I made a new friend. Our new friend felt the need to tell us about his outfit. He told us he was going for a beatnik kind of look (seriously, we could have guessed that without his help). He whipped out sunglasses to finish off his trench coat and beret look. This poor boy is no quitter. Even after *SEVERAL* mentions of our respective boys, he still tried to pick us up! So, B.G. started to have a lot of fun with this. He had no idea what she was mocking him to his face.
"So, you where do you work? What do you do? What kind of job do you have?"-B.G.
"I work for a food library."-Beatnik Boy
'WHAT??? What is that?"-B.G.
"Oh, it's a super market."-Beatnik Boy
"So you in a band? Play an instrument? Guitar hero?" B.G.
"No, but I know someone in a band."-BB
"Hum, everyone under fifty knows someone in a band."-B.G.
Oh, it went on and on and on. He didn't know when to quit. Then he told us all about his Prince Valiant hair-do. How he cuts it himself because no one can get it right. Well, his mom use to do it, but now he can. HELP US!!!! Goth Girl and her friends rescued us after a while, but B.G. thought it was too funny (she had a great time telling us over and over in the car everything that was really funny to her and I since Goth Girl missed a bunch of it when she was chatting with friends!!). We went to dance and that was great! I love dancing!! Goth dancing is crazy fun because no rhythm is needed. This is good for me.
Anyway, as we were getting ready to go home at a ungodly hour that I don't think I've seen except for college, we *FOUND* Beatnik Boy again. I think he was searching for us. B.G. went to the bathroom while Goth Girl and I were chatting. Beatnik Boy came up and tried again.
"So, you like have an e-mail address so we can keep in touch?"-Beatnik Boy
"Nope. I don't have a computer. My husband and I are way behind the times."-Me
I was waiting for Goth Girl to say "yes, you do" but she saw too busy snorting into her hand to keep from laughing. B.G. came back at that point and announces "HOW DID YOU FIND US???"
"Oh, it's a kind of small place."- Beatnik Boy
Dear God, please give this boy a clue. He needs it.

Back To School!

Ahhh, the first day for teachers! Tomorrow the kids will start! I met the people in my new school and tomorrow I will meet my new kids!!
In other news, I got my yarn for the Mystery Stole 4. I'm ready to go! It should be cool. This will be my first one and I loved how #3 looked, so I thought I should get in on this one.
I'm off to play Wii and relax before tomorrow's craziness starts! ^_^
